Model Answer

Severe Floods in Dhemaji

By Amar/Nitu

Dhemaji, 16th July: On 15th July 2017, I visited several flood-hit areas of Dhemaji District, which was severely affected by incessant rain and rising river levels.

Many villages were completely submerged under floodwater, displacing thousands of people. Victims took shelter on embankments, school buildings and temporary relief camps. Roads, bridges and farmlands were heavily damaged. The administration responded promptly, providing food packets, drinking water and essential medicines. Rescue teams used country boats and NDRF units were deployed for evacuation.

Local volunteers and NGOs played a key role in distributing aid and comforting distressed families. The overall damage was huge and urgent government intervention is required to strengthen flood-control measures and help the victims rebuild their lives.
